Initial Evaluation: Un-Meeting: Addressing the Opioid Crisis through Translational Science

Purpose

To elicit participant feedback on the 2018 Addressing the Opioid Crisis through Translational Science evaluation Un-Meeting.

Executive Summary

CLIC convened an “Un-Meeting” on Saturday June 2, 2018 at the University of Rochester Medical Center as part of the NCATS priority of addressing the opioid crisis through translational research. The Un-Meeting provided 4x4 (4 slides, 4 minutes) presentations to stimulate discussion on key topics in opioid research and engaged attendees in generating ideas and content for breakout sessions with the goals of encouraging networking and new collaborations to identify innovative ideas for addressing this epidemic. CLIC conducted an evaluation of attendees to examine how well these goals were achieved.

Evaluation questions addressed Un-Meeting Content, Logistics, and Overall Experience.

Attendees linked to the evaluation survey via a QR code provided by presenters and via tent cards at the location. In addition, an email was sent to attendees at the end of the meeting with a link to the survey. Follow-up reminders were emailed to all attendees with the evaluation link and included in confirmation emails sent to travel scholarship attendees when they submitted for reimbursement. As of July 3, 2018, a total of 40 responses were received from the 97 non-CLIC attendees, for a final response rate of 41.2%.

Overall, attendees responded positively to the Un-Meeting and emphasized the central role that networking and played in the success of the experience. Almost every attendee reported making new connections, most of which were inter-disciplinary. Nearly all attendees reported new learning and many reported the development of research and research action steps.

This report uses both the quantitative data and qualitative data to evaluate common themes and recommendations gleaned from this survey.
