Deaf individuals experience significant obstacles to participating in behavioral health research when careful consideration is not given to accessibility during the design of study methodology. To inform such considerations, we conducted an exploratory secondary analysis of a mixed-methods study that originally explored 16 Deaf trauma survivors' help-seeking experiences.
Pediatric diffuse midline glioma is a highly morbid glial neoplasm that may arise in the thalamus or brainstem (also known as diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma or DIPG). Because tumor anatomic location precludes surgical resection, diagnosis and treatment is based on MR imaging and analysis of biopsy specimens.

Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) based therapies are currently being evaluated as a putative therapeutic in numerous human clinical trials. Recent reports have established that exosomes mediate much of the therapeutic properties of MSCs. Exosomes are nanovesicles which mediate intercellular communication, transmitting signals between cells which regulate a diverse range of biological processes.

Few studies have evaluated the association between secondhand smoke (SHS) and subclinical cardiovascular disease among ethnically diverse populations. This study assesses the impact of SHS on inflammation and atherosclerosis (carotid intima-media thickness, coronary artery calcification, and peripheral arterial disease).

Most drug epidemics in the United States have disproportionately affected nonwhite communities. Notably, the current opioid epidemic is heavily concentrated among low-income white communities, and the roots of this racial/ethnic phenomenon have not been adequately explained.
The relationship of LPA single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), apolipoprotein(a) isoforms, and lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] levels with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in different ethnic groups is not well known.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) complications lead to poor health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and increased healthcare utilization in this population, which could be mitigated with hydroxyurea therapy; however, adherence is suboptimal. We assessed the relationship of healthcare utilization to hydroxyurea adherence and HRQOL amongst youth with SCD.

Using a novel method developed to quantify the polarizability of photoluminescent nanoparticles in water, we present experimental observations of the extraordinary polarizability exhibited by nanoparticles of commensurate size with the Debye screening length, confirming previously reported theory.

Our previous work detailed a pathway of REversion-inducing-Cysteine-rich protein with Kazal motifs (RECK) isoform-mediated invasion in which a shorter RECK protein competes with MMP9 for interaction with the canonical RECK protein on the cell surface.

To examine the impact of diabetes mellitus on procedural outcomes of patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention for chronic total occlusion. We assessed the impact of diabetes mellitus on the outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention for chronic total occlusion among 1308 people who underwent such procedures at 11 US centres between 2012 and 2015.

Hyponatremia is a common electrolyte disorder in critically ill patients. Rapid correction of chronic hyponatremia may lead to osmotic demyelination syndrome.
As their name implies, cation channels allow the regulated flow of cations such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium across cellular and intracellular membranes. Cation channels have long been known for their fundamental roles in controlling membrane potential and excitability in neurons and muscle.

Advanced imaging is increasingly important in the diagnosis of ocular surface malignancy. Inverse spectroscopic optical coherence tomography (ISOCT) and two-photon autofluorescence microscopy (2P-AF) are emerging techniques capable of quantifying ultrastructural and metabolic changes, respectively. We aimed to detect malignancy in ocular surface lesions using ISOCT and 2P-AF.

The number of older adults with cancer is growing, necessitating more collaborative training in geriatric principles and cancer care. The authors administered a web-based survey to U.S. geriatrics program directors (PDs) addressing cancer-specific training and perspectives on optimal training content and roles for geriatricians in cancer care. Of 140 PDs contacted, 67 (48%) responded.

The ability to generate T cells from pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) has the potential to transform autologous T cell immunotherapy by facilitating universal, off-the-shelf cell products. However, differentiation of human PSCs into mature, conventional T cells has been challenging with existing methods.
