Creating an Effective and Compliant Research Data Request Process

Understanding the complexities of requesting research data within a large academic health system can be a challenge for investigators. The University of Washington (UW) is working to provide the research community with avenues for requesting data that are both simple to understand and execute. From self-service tools both in and outside of the Electronic Health Record (EHR), to a well-defined process for honest broker handled requests. The UW research data request model has been successful in keeping operational costs for the workflow low—even recovering funds through the service line—but more importantly it has increased both investigator satisfaction and confidence that the data is appropriate, and of research quality without compromising compliance. UW’s poster presents an overview of the Data request process at-a-glance including the critical components and descriptions necessary to create an effective and complaint research data request process.
