Senior Database Administrator - University of Iowa

The University of Iowa Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) Biomedical Informatics Core is seeking a senior database administrator which includes analysis, design, documentation, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of the Clinical Research Data Warehouse (CRDW). The position will be responsible for extensive data processing, extraction, integration, analysis and database development activities. This position functions as a SQL and ETL developer for the Clinical Research Data Warehouse (CRDW) for meeting diverse research data requirements.

Duties to include but not limited to:

Design, develop and support of database management systems (based on Microsoft SQL and others as assigned) that use the relational structure.
Perform analysis of third party data sources for loading into the Clinical Research Data Warehouse (CRDW).Troubleshoot assigned applications and customer reported issues.
Design / update relational and dimensional data models.
Create / manage / database and required database objects (tables, indexes, stored procedures etc.) 
Translate customer needs to technical teams.
Analyze data models (as needed) and extract / integrate data.
Implements relational, dimensional models using appropriate ETL/BI tools and techniques.
Use appropriate ETL, BI tools and techniques for required data processing, data loading, reporting and analytics.
Provide operational support.
Contribute ideas. Seek way to improve assigned processes. May provide functional supervision; provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved.
Work in cross functional team environment and coordinate work/activities.
ICTS Description: The Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) at the University of Iowa was approved by the Iowa Board of Regents in 2007 to support the work of investigators involved in clinical and translational science. Our mission is to accelerate translational science through programs to develop the translational workforce, to promote engagement of community members and other stakeholders, to promote research integration across the lifespan, and to catalyze innovative clinical and translational research. These efforts will lead to the development of novel therapies and healthcare delivery strategies, the integration of translational research and clinical practice, and, ultimately to measurable improvements in the health of Iowa and the nation.

Qualifications: Experience

Education Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant application development experience.

Experience Requirements

Experience (typically 3-5 years) in complex SQL writing, data extraction and data modeling.
Experience (typically 3 years) working with ETL tools (SSIS etc).
Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and multiple projects simultaneously.
Healthcare domain knowledge and familiarity with healthcare standards and terminologies, i.e. ICD9 Codes, CPT4 Codes etc.
Desirable Qualifications

Familiarity with healthcare system (Epic preferably) and the underlying database structures (e.g., Clarity, Caboodle).
Epic certifications(s) related but not limited to the following: Clarity Data Model, Clinical Data Model, Cogito Fundamentals
Experience working with 3rd party data to define system requirements, integration strategies and implement interfaces. 
Experience with BI and other data warehousing tools.
