2020 TL1 Directors Group Poolside Chat #3 - Exploring Careers in Government

This summer we will have three sessions where we will have interactive conversations with leaders who will share their knowledge about career opportunities in industry, government, and NIH.

Lee Campbell PhD - From NINA Postdoc back to Academia |
Lee Campbell received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Physiology under the direction of Dr. Italo Mocchetti from Georgetown University in 2014. After graduate school, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute on Drug Abuse Intramural Research Program in Baltimore, working with Dr. Brandon Harvey from 2015 to 2020. His work there utilized CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology to develop models to study and treat HIV infection. Dr. Lee is now back to Georgetown as a Research Assistant Professor in the Neuroscience Department. |
Christine Maric-Bilkan – Program Officer NIDDK |
Christine Maric-Bilkan is a Program Officer in the Division of Kidney, Urologic and Hematologic diseases at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)/National Institutes of Health, where she oversees a portfolio of grants related to research on sex and gender differences in renal diseases, diabetic and polycystic kidney disease. In addition, Christine serves as an advisor to the NIDDK Institute Director on scientific direction, stewardship, and oversight of research related to the health of women. Dr. Maric-Bilkan received her PhD from the University of Melbourne, Australia in renal physiology. Following post-doctoral training at the University College London, UK, she joined Georgetown University Medical Center in 2001 as an Assistant Professor and then as Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2008. During her academic career, Dr. Maric-Bilkan’s research focused on sex differences in the pathophysiology of diabetic end-organ complications. She has published over 50 papers on this topic over the past 15 years |
